I'm wondering what cookies I should make for Christmas. Any suggestions? I'd like a nice assortment of them to put on my buffet on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. What are some surefire hits?

I always make an assortment too but you can't go wrong with sugar cookkies. With one recipe of sugar cookies you can make many different shapes and styles of sugar cookies that should please just about anyone. I also make the peanut butter kisses cookies (the ones with the Hershey's Kiss in the middle), a batch of kolacky, a batch of bar cookies, some cookies with the red and green m and m's and some macaroons. I make some candy as well. To make an assortment work, I make small batches of many recipes, that way there is a lot of variety, no one will get tired of something and if I have leftovers I won't be sick of any one thing. Merry Christmas!

I wanted to add shortbread cookies to the list. They are super easy to make and satisfy the adults who don't care for decorated cookies.

Decorated sugar cookies, it's a tradition.

I highly recommend the sour cream sugar cookies recipe found on this site. Big hit at my office.
