Does anyone have any suggestions for recipes that are easy to make with kids?

You'll probably find any recipe that has few ingredients to be easiest with kids. Shortbread or butter cookies sometimes have as little as 3 ingredients and just a few steps to make them. These are good for kids who have never made cookies before. Also, cutouts are great to involved children in the process. You can make the dough the day before and then freeze it overnight so it is all ready to go the next day. Another option is to make no bake cookies, this way you take the hot oven out of the equation and it requires less supervision. No bake cookies are easy to make and the perfect choice for kids.

You have to be careful with some of the no bake recipes though, since they require you to melt things or boil things on a stove, which can be more dangerous than using an oven. So I like the refrigerator cookies idea that you can slice and bake and the simple ingredients cookies like snickerdoodles or shortbread. Also, you can't go wrong with cutouts, kids love those, and it's probably better to just make the dough yourself the night before or a few hours before and keep it chilled until the kids are ready to do the rolling. Hope that helps!

good advice i think... the no bake recipes do require a stove, so make sure to consider that.

Oh dear... don't try the no bake cookies with small kids, they can't deal with the stove, that's even more dangerous than the oven. my child rearing days are long over but i still bake with the grandkids (i have 10 and counting :D ) and they enjoy the typical cut outs for Christmas. The decorating part is the most fun for them . I agree with the person who said to make the dough ahead, even the day before and then freeze it until it's needed. That's a great way to bake with kids and avoid some of the mess. hope that is helpful!

I really don't think there's a substitute for making cut out cookies with the kids... it's the most fun since it involves decorating. You can't go wrong with it.

the grandkids came over last weekend and we made this recipe together:

Not hard to make and you get a nice, simple, yet rich and flavorful cookie.
